Shiitake Mushroom Log Growing Instructions

These mushrooms grow in room light (out of direct sunlight) and room temperature and will produce every two months for about four years.

Immersing the log in cold water (non-chlorinated) and then soaking it for 24-48 hours “shocks” it and triggers the fruiting cycle. Mushrooms sprout in 6-10 days, yielding 1/4 - 1/3 pound or more. Then the log should be allowed to “rest” for two months, until the next fruiting.

During the 2 months of resting, the log should be moistened by dipping it into the bucket of non-chlorinated water about every week or two. Do not soak it during the resting cycle as this will cause a premature bloom which will stress the mushrooms and decrease the quality.

For non-chlorinated water, rain water works great, or let chlorinated city water set out in an open bucket for two days to let the chlorine dissipate.
Good Luck and Have Fun!
